Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Evenings Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: - 2 years of experience in the Emergency Department - Experience with conscious sedation - Strong critical thinking skills - Ability in AMI management Description: The Emergency Department is a Level 4 trauma unit. It has 24 beds, including 4 critical rooms and 1 trauma room. An intake model is used for lower acuity patients with flexible RN to patient ratios. Travelers are allowed to triage after demonstrating adequate skills. ER holds are managed within the ED rather than in a separate holding area. There are 2 well-equipped separate psych/seclusion rooms. Security is in-house 24/7 with one stationed in the ED and one roving the campus. On average, the ER treats between 80 to 110 patients daily. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for general ED cases. For ICU situations in the ED, the ratio is either 1:2 or 1:1, depending on acuity. A charge nurse is available 24/7 and does not take an assignment in general. ED Technicians maintain a ratio of 1:10-12, equipped with IV skills, phlebotomy, splinting, and wound care. Paramedics work within the intake area during peak hours. Respiratory Therapy provides services for intubation, vent setup, Bi-Pap, and ABG. Two RTs cover the entire hospital and respond to urgent needs in the ED. Registered Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting equipment and calling RT for issues. All beds are equipped with telemetry monitoring capability; RNs are trained to interpret their own strips. Transport for X-ray and CT is handled independently by the respective team. Phlebotomy may be performed by either RNs or designated personnel, depending on the situation. Scheduling does not allow self-scheduling. Block scheduling is permitted but limited to four consecutive shifts. Weekend availability is required, with every other weekend duties. Holiday work is negotiable, but some major holidays are required. There is one on-call shift in a 28-day schedule. Floating may be required between designated Emergency Departments and is generally pre-scheduled. The dress code consists of navy blue scrubs.
