Foley catheter insertion competency. Central line dressing change competency. Ability to maintain sterile field. Description: Review of profile and manager interview required. All RNs must complete a skills lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. The skills lab is pass/fail. Nurses must understand sterile field to pass the skills lab. Competency in maintaining sterile field is expected as these skills are frequently performed. Candidates indicating lack of competency in these areas may not be a good fit. In addition to the skills lab, participants will cover lifts, restraints, and wound care in an educational format. The clinician must take and pass the dysrhythmia exam within two attempts before signing the contract. A minimum score of 80% is required. Failure to achieve this score in two attempts will result in a six-month disqualification from future assignments. Nursing staff will manage a mixed holding area within the Emergency Department. Emergency Department nurses typically handle their own patient holds as part of their assignments. The average number of patients per day is approximately 105. Staffing ratios are generally 1:4, with team care provided in intake areas. Required equipment includes central monitoring for all beds except intake. Nurses will read EKG strips as there are no monitor technicians. Transport for X-ray and CT is handled by house transporters, when available. Nurse or ED Technicians will perform blood draws as required. There is a requirement for every other weekend work and scheduled holidays. There is an on-call requirement of two 12-hour shifts every four weeks. Additional floating between campuses may be required. Scrub color is navy blue. Charting system is Cerner. A BSN is not required for this position. The care setting is acute.
