Senior Acoustic Engineer , Fauna

We are seeking a Senior Acoustic Engineer to lead the design, integration, and validation of acoustic and audio subsystems for robots. You will own the full acoustic architecture from early-stage prototyping through production spanning microphone arrays, speaker systems, noise management, and electromechanical acoustic interaction. This role requires deep expertise in electroacoustic transducer design, acoustic measurement, and hands-on hardware development in a fast-paced R&D environment. Key job responsibilities- Architect and own the acoustic subsystem design for robotic platforms, including microphone arrays, speaker modules, and noise isolation strategies for mechanically dynamic environments - Serve as the subject-matter expert on acoustics and audio signal processing, providing technical guidance across hardware, embedded software, mechanical, and systems engineering teams - Research, specify, and characterize electroacoustic components (microphones, speakers, receivers) for integration into robotic form factors with unique mechanical and thermal constraints - Develop and validate acoustic measurement methodologies, test fixtures, and quality assurance processes for low-volume and prototype production - Design and execute acoustic simulations (e.g., COMSOL Multiphysics) to guide enclosure design, transducer placement, and noise mitigation strategies - Drive acoustic performance from concept through prototype builds and production ramp, including root cause analysis and troubleshooting of acoustic anomalies in electromechanical systems - Collaborate cross-functionally with robotics engineers, mechanical designers, embedded software teams, and external research partners - Manage relationships with acoustic component vendors and external consultants, defining specifications and integrating third-party inputs into programs - Author technical documentation, SOPs, and test specifications for acoustic validation and production test About the teamFauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Basic qualifications- Experience with at least one of the following: Matlab, R, Python, Stata- Experience in embedded development in C/C++, or experience programming with at least one software programming language- 7+ years of experience in acoustic design, validation, and integration for hardware products or electromechanical systems- Proficiency in acoustic measurement tools such as SoundCheck, Audio Precision, or equivalent platforms- Experience with microphone and speaker selection, characterization, and integration into space-constrained, mechanically complex enclosures- Deep acoustic and signal-processing fundamentals: transducer physics, enclosure acoustics, digital signal processing, and filter design- Hands-on prototype development, hardware bring-up of audio subsystems, and iterative design cycles from concept through production- Practical knowledge of test system design, including acoustic test fixture development, production test plans, and test-to-spec validation- Experience with acoustic simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL Multiphysics) for transducer and enclosure modeling- Proven ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams, including international manufacturing and vendor partners- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Acoustics specialization), Audio Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related fieldPreferred qualification - Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent- Experience with acoustic design in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or other electromechanical platforms with significant self-generated noise- Familiarity with beamforming, direction-of-arrival estimation, spatial audio, or loudspeaker array design- Experience with noise isolation and vibration management strategies for acoustic subsystems in mechanically active environments- Experience designing acoustic systems for low-volume or prototype production environments rather than high-volume consumer manufacturingAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
