Phlebotomist

Job Title Phlebotomist I Overview Phlebotomist I is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practice in a manner that enhances patient and caregiver engagement. Responsibilities Accurately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing using venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab techniques. Collect specimens from patients of varying acuities, including Outpatient, Emergency Department, Inpatient, newborns, and intensive care patients. Adhere to lab compliance, safety regulations, and personal protective equipment standards such as gowns, gloves, masks, lab coats, and face shields. Communicate procedures and instructions to patients and family members and demonstrate empathy. Participate in CODE response teams as required. Mentor and train new staff and contribute to special projects. Perform specimen processing and other laboratory responsibilities as assigned by the team or department leader. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, navigate multiple computer systems, and document patient care accurately. Manage on‑call shifts, holiday rotations, and other scheduling needs based on department or facility requirements. Qualifications BLS required. High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). At least six months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training, or national certification approved by manager/supervisor (preferred). Excellent communication and patient care skills. Strong laboratory operations knowledge and regulatory compliance awareness. Computer literacy and ability to navigate multiple systems. Teamwork, ability to work independently, and organizational skills. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see, read labels, assess patients, and operate monitors. Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors. Manual dexterity to manipulate delicate equipment. Ability to lift, carry, and move patients and supplies, including heavy items. Ability to stand in a stationary position for extended periods and navigate crowded rooms. Driving may be required, involving reading signs and operating a vehicle. Location & Hours Facility: Alta View Clinic City: Sandy State: Utah Schedule: 0 scheduled weekly hours; position available on a need‑basis schedule.
