Tax Manager (CPA Firm) - About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established public accounting and advisory firm serving closely held businesses, business owners, and individuals throughout Central New Jersey. As the firm continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join their leadership team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys building long-term client relationships while serving as a trusted advisor. You'll oversee a diverse tax practice, mentor staff, and work directly with business owners to deliver strategic tax planning, compliance, and consulting services. The firm offers the resources of a growing practice while maintaining the collaborative culture and personal attention of a local CPA firm.

Tax Manager Responsibilities:

• Manage a portfolio of business and individual tax clients, serving as their primary advisor.

• Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for corporations, S corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individuals.

• Develop proactive tax planning strategies that help clients minimize tax liabilities and meet their financial goals.

• Research tax laws and regulations and provide guidance on complex tax matters.

• Review financial statements and client accounting records to ensure accuracy and tax compliance.

• Respond to IRS and state tax notices and represent clients during audits and other tax matters when necessary.

• Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and exceptional service.

• Lead, coach, and mentor tax staff while reviewing work for quality and accuracy.

• Help improve internal processes, workflows, and efficiencies to support the firm's continued growth.

• Collaborate with firm leadership on client service initiatives and business development opportunities.

Tax Manager Qualifications:

• CPA license required or actively pursuing licensure.

• 6+ years of recent public accounting experience with a strong focus on taxation.

• Experience preparing and reviewing individual, corporate, partnership, and S corporation tax returns.

• Strong knowledge of tax planning, consulting, and compliance for privately held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.

• Experience supervising staff and managing multiple client engagements.

• Strong communication, organizational, and client relationship management skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting/tax software; experience with UltraTax and QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) is a plus.
