Senior Patient Services Specialist - Thoracic Surgery Clinic

Senior Patient Services Specialist Provides support and clinic coordination of multiple patient care services and patient orientation at Swedish Cancer Institute across multiple campuses. Executes a wide spectrum of clerical duties including scheduling new patients, follow‑up clinic appointments, subsequent treatments, and requested diagnostic tests. Handles insurance verifications, referrals, authorizations, prepares and maintains medical records, reconciles billing issues, answers multiple phone lines and triages calls. Exhibits excellent communication and problem‑solving skills with patient care and clinic matters. Demonstrates compassion, sensitivity, and emotional stability when working with oncology patients. Acts as a liaison with patients, families, other departments, and third‑party payers, and provides informational resources about available oncology support services. Partners in orientation and training of new staff and performs additional special project assignments as directed. Responsibilities Schedule new patients, follow‑up appointments, treatments, and diagnostic tests. Acquire insurance verifications, referrals, and authorizations. Prepare and maintain patient medical records. Reconcile billing issues. Answer and triage multiple phone lines. Provide compassionate, accurate, and courteous patient care. Collaborate with staff for orientation and training of new hires. Assist with special project assignments as directed. Required Qualifications Successful completion of oncology administrative training within six months of hire. Medical Terminology Certification or completion of a medical terminology course within 180 days of hire. Minimum one year of experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., physician office, scheduler). Experience obtaining insurance verifications, referrals, and authorizations. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree in Healthcare or technical school with emphasis in healthcare.
