Construction Accountant

Role Description The Construction Accountant will be responsible for managing and analyzing financial activities related to construction projects in Lombard, IL. This full-time, on-site role includes preparing and reviewing job cost reports, tracking project budgets and variances, and ensuring accurate coding of costs to projects and cost centers. The role will oversee accounts payable and receivable related to construction contracts, process progress billings, maintain subcontractor records, and reconcile project-related general ledger accounts. The Construction Accountant will collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and senior leadership to provide timely financial reporting, support forecasting, and assist with compliance requirements, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, and contract documentation. Qualifications Strong foundation in construction accounting practices, including job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and budget-to-actual analysis. Proficiency with accounting software and Excel, including use of formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools. Ability to manage accounts payable and receivable workflows, billing processes, and reconciliations specific to construction projects. Experience collaborating with project teams to interpret financial data, support project planning, and provide clear, concise reporting. Solid understanding of contract administration, including change orders, subcontractor documentation, lien waivers, and compliance requirements. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; experience in construction or real estate development accounting is preferred.
