Campus Police Officer (Class I) The Campus Police Officer performs the duties of a state law enforcement officer for the University of South Carolina Upstate in accordance with South Carolina Code of Laws 23‑6‑430 by enforcing state criminal and traffic laws and the university policies. Responsibilities include patrolling the campus, responding to calls, traffic control, investigating violations, maintaining records, community outreach, and collaborating with local law enforcement. Job Duties Patrol the university campus to protect persons and property, deter crime, and enforce university and state laws. Respond to all calls for service including emergencies, complaints, accidents, disturbances, medical calls, car unlocks, and other requests. Conduct highly visible patrols within a ½ mile radius of campus borders to assist Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department and residential complexes. Make presentations to student organizations, faculty, and staff. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Job Related Minimum Requirements: No specific education or experience required. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications: Associate's or bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field. Ability to handle stressful situations, including mentally unstable, angry, violent, or distressed persons while maintaining composure and professionalism. Ability to work night shifts, maintain confidentiality of investigations, and communicate effectively with a diverse community. Physical fitness and no criminal record. Must pass a background investigation and complete the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy with certification by the SC Law Enforcement Training Council before assuming duties. Compensation & Benefits Sign‑On Bonus: $7,500 paid in increments: $1,750 after field training; $750 after 1st anniversary; $2,500 after 2nd anniversary; $2,500 after 3rd anniversary.
