DescriptionJob Summary:In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this role is also responsible for guiding the team to collaborate and communicate with other departments within the hospital and clinics (e.g., Employee Wellness, Employee Assistance Program) to support institutional staff; coaching others to provide advanced, in-depth spiritual counseling to staff in medical specialty departments (e.g., Emergency Room, Behavioral Health); providing trainings to complete specific to institution needs; overseeing and directing disaster response services and emergency management, including urgent, rapid responses during crisis situations (e.g., Team Lavender); leading collaborations with internal and external entities to provide and facilitate organizational well-being activities (e.g., tea for the soul, healing music); and serving as a key leader for Spiritual Care Services in hospital-based committees (e.g., ethics).Essential Responsibilities:Provides developmental opportunities for others; builds collaborative, cross-functional relationships. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; works closely with employees to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to drive performance improvement. Pursues professional growth; develops and provides training and development to talent for growth opportunities; supports execution of performance management guidelines and expectations. Leads, adapts, implements, and stays up to date with organizational change, challenges, feedback, best practices, processes, and industry trends. Fosters open dialogue amongst team members, engages, motivates, and promotes collaboration within and across teams. Delegates tasks and decisions as appropriate; provides appropriate support, guidance, and scope; encourages development and consideration of options in decision making.Manages designated work unit or team by translating business plans into tactical action items; oversees the completion of work assignments and identifies opportunities for improvement; ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Aligns team efforts; builds accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results; determines and ensures processes and methodologies are implemented; resolves escalated issues as appropriate; sets standards and measures progress. Fosters the development of work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; obtains and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; identifies and addresses improvement opportunities; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly; influences teams to execute in alignment with operational objectives.Leads collaborative efforts in spiritual care by: sharing strategies for developing and maintaining collaborative relationships, communication, and documentation expectations with administrative leadership, interdisciplinary teams, consult services, and departments across the continuum of care; and coaching team members and establishing best practices for initiating and managing collaboration with external spiritual care programs (e.g., Interfaith Councils, Music Ministry, CPE Centers), diverse spiritual leaders, and community partners to provide resources and/or care to patients, their families and loved ones, and staff.Leads patient, loved ones, and staff counseling services by: implementing evaluation guidelines and reviewing use of diverse spiritual care assessment models to evaluate the spiritual needs, issues, and concerns of members and coaching teams to provide appropriate spiritual care services and/or care interventions; coaching teams on determining appropriate crisis intervention methods and techniques to help patients, loved ones, and staff experiencing a crisis event or emotional, spiritual, and/or existential distress; managing teams triaging existential and spiritual counseling and coaching them to create appropriate care plans to ensure patients, their families and loved ones, and staff are treated with sensitivity, respect, and compassion by team members; ensuring teams provide appropriate during and after end-of-life support and counseling to patients, loved ones, and staff, including grief counseling and support group services, overseeing support provided during more complex cases; and guiding documentation of interventions in the patient care record, ensuring compliance with documentation standards, and implementing established charting methodologies across teams.Manages spiritual care services by: overseeing Chaplains and engaging with others (e.g., volunteers, interdisciplinary teams) to ensure they consistently assess, prioritize, and incorporate cultural sensitivity (e.g., acknowledging diverse belief systems) when interacting with patients, their families and loved ones, and team members, within and/or across facilities; acting as an expert resource across teams tending to spiritual or religious needs and providing supportive counseling, services and/or events throughout the year (e.g., Ash Wednesday, Ramadan) for individuals of diverse faiths, backgrounds, religious needs, cultural rituals, and practices, helping team to remove barriers and ensuring standards are met; reviewing and providing guidance on spiritual resources for teams to share with patients, loved ones, and staff (e.g., phone support, home visitations, self-care strategies, literature, memorial services, spiritual practices, and alternative care); and leading teams to monitor and ensure the quality of spiritual care services, including patient survey responses, sharing measures to evaluate quality, and providing guidance for improving care to best meet patients, loved ones, and staffs spiritual support, comfort, nurturing of well-being, and guidance needs, ensuring continuous improvement.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Masters degree in Divinity, Theology or related field from an accredited university AND minimum four (4) years of pastoral care experience in a Hospital, Clinic, or Hospice setting.Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.Job Field: ChaplaincyJob Type: StandardSchedule: Full-timeJob Level: Manager with Direct ReportsTravel: NoEmployee Status: Regular
