HEALTH EDUCATOR-Health Planning & Policy, Tarrant County Public Health in Tarrant County, TX Location: Tarrant County, TX Regular Full-time Department: Public Health Posted: 11/17/2008 | Closing Date: 12/16/2008 at 11:59 PM Central Time (US & Canada) Work with the division manager and staff to partner with internal and external professionals and coalitions to plan, design, and lend aid toward evaluation of preventive health initiatives. Coordinate the assembly of health education resources which are distributed or outsourced to those neediest target populations. Assist to strengthen community relations (coalitions, collaborations, etc.) through participation with community partners and existing resources. Provide critical capacity to the department by relaying needed health and risk information to the public in regard to terrorist threats or emergency situations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Assists with management of educational materials, usage of equipment and facilities in the Health Education Resources Center, Education Conference Center, and other areas in the public health facility. 2. Assists with design and implementation of prevention education programs. 3. Interprets and responds to requests for health education materials. 4. Assists with special health promotional projects and/or events 5. Assists appropriately assigned areas or divisions with doing educational need assessment activities. 6. Assist the division manager and staff with research, implementation and performance of health impact assessments to aid communities in understanding the finding and proposing changes for improvements in human health, safety and well-being. 7. Plans and makes culturally sensitive presentations on a variety of public health issues when directed by higher level management personnel. 8. Assist the division manager with research and implementation of best practice community partnering guideline to sustain and expand viable coalitions, collaborations, etc. 9. Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the business as assigned or required. Qualifications Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field with some college Health Science courses. Must have a valid Driver License. One (1) full-time year of educational experience is preferred. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or other certification in an education related field desirable. Some familiarity with Spanish language for more effective interaction with non-English speaking clients preferred. Spreadsheet and/or word processing skills, basic oral and written communication and presentation skills, and basic skills to operate A/V equipment such as LCD projectors are preferred.
