Completion of an accredited Interpreter Training Program (ITP), active Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification, and 1+ years Interpreter experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Deliver meaningful support to students by utilizing your expertise as an Interpreter and Braillist in a dynamic educational setting. This contract opportunity focuses on assisting a visually impaired student who is a full Braille user. The selected professional will help create accessible educational materials, ensuring the student remains engaged and ahead in their coursework.

Key Qualifications:

• Proficiency in interpreting and translating educational content into Braille
• Experience using Braille embossers (familiarity with Rogue Embosser and 11.5 x 11 paper preferred)
• Strong organizational skills to maintain a workflow that places student assignments two weeks in advance
• Ability to utilize digital collaboration tools such as Google Docs
• Thorough understanding of best practices in supporting visually impaired students
• Previous work in a school setting or with youth is highly valued

Primary Responsibilities:

• Convert educational materials—including worksheets, tests, and assignments—into Braille for a single full Braille student
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to determine upcoming assignments and ensure timely Braille transcription
• Use a Rogue Embosser to produce Braille documents, maintaining a consistent supply of accessible resources
• Leverage a centralized Google Doc system to upload and share documents for school use
• Monitor and prioritize workflow to ensure the student consistently receives materials at least two weeks ahead
• Adapt to new information and procedures as provided, maintaining flexibility in approach
