Special Education Teacher in Cambridge, MA

Job Description

Bring your expertise as an experienced Special Education Teacher and Reading Specialist to a rewarding contract assignment supporting high school students in the Cambridge, MA area. This full-time role focuses on delivering intensive reading interventions with a caseload of approximately 30 students, utilizing Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading techniques. The assignment is set to run from September 1st to October 30th, with the potential to extend through December.

Qualifications:

Current Special Education Teaching certification (grades 5-12) required
Massachusetts DESE license in special education mandatory
Orton-Gillingham or Wilson reading certification required
Completion of at least 1 year of Orton-Gillingham practicum is essential
Demonstrated success targeting reading challenges in high school students
Familiarity with individualized reading programs and ongoing academic interventions

Key Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and monitor structured literacy interventions for a diverse group of high school learners
Manage a dynamic caseload, possibly including some rising 8th graders
Provide engaging, evidence-based instruction to support students’ reading growth
Collaborate closely with general and special education colleagues, families, and service providers
Maintain thorough documentation of progress and adapt strategies as needed for individual student needs
