Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Water Resources Engineer in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin office. This position is ideal for a senior water resources professional with experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering nature-based solutions, green stormwater infrastructure, ecological restoration (stream, lakes, and wetland), constructed wetlands, resilient parks/open space, and watershed improvement projects from planning and funding strategy through design, permitting, construction documents, stakeholder engagement, and construction-phase support. In this role, you will help public- and private-sector clients advance practical, community-centered, climate-resilient infrastructure solutions while contributing to client development, proposal strategy, staff mentorship, and project delivery.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams to deliver stormwater, watershed, ecological restoration, and climate resilience projects.

Serve as project manager, senior technical lead, or design lead for planning, design, permitting, and construction-phase assignments involving green stormwater infrastructure, low impact development (LID), constructed wetlands, stream and shoreline restoration, resilient parks, public open space, trails, boardwalks, and related civil/environmental infrastructure.

Oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analyses/modeling, watershed assessments, floodplain evaluations, stormwater BMP sizing, water quality treatment evaluations, alternatives analyses, and design documentation using tools such as SWMM, InfoSWMM, PC-SWMM, XP-SWMM, HydroCAD, WinSLAMM, HEC-RAS, and GIS-based workflows.

Develop and review engineering calculations, from conceptual through final design plans, specifications, construction documents, technical memoranda, permit-support materials, cost estimates, bid documents, and construction-phase documentation.

Manage environmental permitting and agency coordination for local, state, and federal approvals, including stormwater, wetlands, floodplain, water quality, coastal/shoreline, historic/cultural resource, NPDES/MS4, and Clean Water Act-related requirements.

Support municipal, watershed association, state/federal agency, institutional, and nonprofit clients with capital project planning, grant strategy, funding applications, public outreach, stakeholder engagement, and implementation planning.

Lead client engagement and relationship management activities, including regular project communications, presentations, public meetings, stakeholder workshops, agency meetings, and development of clear technical materials for technical and non-technical audiences.

Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, quality reviews, risk considerations, and deliverables for multiple concurrent consulting assignments.

Provide senior-level mentorship, technical guidance, and quality review to junior and mid-level staff, supporting staff development and consistent delivery of high-quality work products.

Support business development consistent with Geosyntec's sell-manage-do model, including opportunity identification, proposal development, scope and fee preparation, project descriptions, interviews, and client strategy.

Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, public meetings, construction sites, and other business locations, as needed.

Education And Licensure

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, or a closely related discipline. (required)

Advanced degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, ecological engineering, or a closely related discipline. (preferred)

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. Wisconsin P.E. preferred; if currently licensed in another state, ability to obtain Wisconsin licensure by comity/reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe after hire. (required)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

At least 8 years (10+ years preferred) of progressively responsible consulting experience in water resources, stormwater, civil/environmental engineering, ecological restoration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)

Demonstrated experience managing planning, design, permitting, and construction projects for municipal, state, federal, institutional, watershed, nonprofit, or utility clients. (required)

Strong project management experience, including scope development, budget and schedule management, team coordination, QA/QC, contractor/subconsultant coordination, and delivery of multiple concurrent assignments. (required)

Experience leading design and construction support for green stormwater infrastructure, LID/BMP retrofits, constructed wetlands, stream or shoreline restoration, resilient public parks/open space, trails, boardwalks, habitat restoration, or comparable nature-based solutions. (required)

Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water quality evaluation, floodplain analysis, drainage system assessment, and stormwater infrastructure planning/design using SWMM-based tools, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, WinSLAMM, ArcGIS, or similar platforms. (required)

Working knowledge of stormwater, water quality, wetlands, floodplain, coastal/shoreline, state and federal permitting, NPDES/MS4 compliance, and Clean Water Act-related regulatory frameworks. (required)

Proven ability to build trusted client relationships, lead stakeholder and public outreach, facilitate meetings, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences. (required)

Experience supporting funding strategy, grant applications, capital improvement planning, and implementation planning for stormwater, resilience, trails, parks, watershed, or public infrastructure projects. (preferred)

Demonstrated success contributing to proposals, client development, technical approaches, scopes of work, fee estimates, interviews, and business development strategy. (preferred)

Experience mentoring and supervising technical staff, organizing multidisciplinary project teams, and fostering collaboration across disciplines (preferred).

Strong technical writing, proposal writing, presentation, organization, and client service skills. (required)

Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and travel to project sites, client offices, public meetings, or construction sites as needed. (required)

Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.

Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
