The teacher reports to the principal and the Director of Student Services, and directs Teaching Assistants when assigned. Duties Recommend and implement accommodations and modifications appropriate to students' needs in line with strategies to help children achieve in the general curriculum. Instruct students in basic foundation and living skills appropriate to functioning level, age, and school community. Collaborate with related services providers to coordinate program needs of assigned students and ensure accommodations and modifications are made in the general curriculum and school environment. Collaborate as needed with community agencies to ensure appropriate programming and coordination. Apply appropriate knowledge to curriculum content/instruction, including behavioral and ABA approach, plan lessons and align assessment of student learning, monitor students' understanding, and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments using data-driven techniques as appropriate. Maintain and improve professional competence through attendance at professional development events and through self-generated activities that meet district expectations and re-certification requirements. Share responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Licensed or eligible for licensure in Intensive Special Needs at the appropriate level, including Sheltered English Immersion endorsement. Meet all Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher. Previous experience teaching children with severe special needs using an ABA approach. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
