Washington Youth Alliance / Action Fund / Future Fund- Operations & Finance Associate Apply by June 29 Pay: $21 an hour. Pay is not negotiable. Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week through the summer, easing to roughly 10 hours per week in the fall as academic schedules resume. This is a six-month position with the possibility of extension depending on fit and budget. We build flexibility around your calendar.Start Date: We anticipate a start date of early July. Location: This role is hybrid, with flexibility for remote work and occasional in-person time at our Seattle office. Washington State based only. Washington Youth Alliance Overview: We are Washingtons only truly youth-led 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and State PAC that builds authentic statewide youth power by transforming young people's stories and lived experiences into action, creating youth-led chapters that educate, advocate, and organize for mental health support, gun violence prevention, access to a healthier democracy, and other systemic changes young people need. We envision a world where Washington is designed to serve the needs of and address problems specific to young people, and where young people are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to shape systems so it continues to address issues that impact young people. What do we define as youth-led? We define youth-led as having young people ages 13-24, but particularly those not in College, at the center of everything we are doing and hope to do. Our boards are 85% under the age of 24 with 33.3% being under the age of 18 and from local chapters.The OpportunityThis is a hands-on role for someone who wants to learn the financial backbone of a nonprofit from the inside. The core of the job is bookkeeping: keeping accurate, current records of the money moving in and out across our three organizations. You will be trained on this from the ground up, so prior bookkeeping experience is not required. What the role does ask for is care about getting numbers right and the discipline to keep the books current on a regular schedule. You will work closely with our Executive Director and Chief of Staff, and over time you will own a real, recurring part of how WYA stays financially healthy and compliant.Bookkeeping & Financial Records (the heart of this role; full training provided)Record and categorize income and expenses in QuickBooks, coding each transaction to the correct entity (our 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC)Keep the books current on a steady weekly rhythmReconcile bank and credit card accounts each month and flag anything that doesn't matchMaintain organized digital records of invoices, receipts, and payment documentationMeet with our contracted CFO quarterly to review the books. Compliance & Filing SupportHelp coordinate required filings with state agenciesMaintain a compliance calendar tracking deadlines across all three WYA entitiesSupport document preparation for annual audits and financial reviewsAdministrative & Operations SupportKeep financial filing systems in line with nonprofit record retention requirementsHelp onboard new vendors and contractors (W-9 collection, etc)Help prepare financial summaries for board meetingsKeep the Operations Manual updated as you learnWhat We're Looking ForRequired:Must be a student at a community college or 4 year universityStrong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers and financial documentsThe discipline to keep recurring work on schedule and records accurate over timeOrganizational skills to track multiple deadlinesProficiency with Google Workspace, and willingness to learn QuickBooks and bookkeepingIn progress major or minor in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. Relevant experience of at least (1) year can replace this requirement.
