Project Support Specialist

The primary purpose of this early career position is to provide project support services to the Coastal Zone Management Section 309 Strategy (2021-2025) Project and supports the implementation of the Hawai’ i Ocean Resources Management Plan (2020). The Project Support Specialist will coordinate implementation of the ORMP, provide administrative support and coordination of the Project’s strategic meetings, assist with project management, grant reporting, grant proposal development, data collection and analysis, research, and overall project effectiveness. The role also provides administrative and research support for the Marine and Coastal Zone Advocacy Council (MACZAC) meetings. Skills / Abilities Carry out the functions and responsibilities of the Special Program; read and comprehend laws, rules, and regulations; analyze facts and issues; provide recommendations to the Project team; collaborate towards solutions to complex and sensitive problems related to the ORMP; work effectively with colleagues, agency representatives, and partners. Must thrive in a highly dynamic environment and adapt to a broad set of assignments with variable timelines. Excellent time management and organizational skills to support project and initiatives running concurrently. Proven ability to recognize, analyze, and balance competing interests. Must have the ability to deal satisfactorily with workers and operating personnel, recognize operational problems in the Special Program, develop practical solutions, and assume responsibility in managing the Special Program. Education Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Experience Specialized Experience: 1½ years of progressively responsible work experience in a related field. Must have administrative aptitude, success in regular or special assignments involving administrative problems; interest in management demonstrated by performance of assignments; completion of management training or education courses applied to work; observation and evaluation of leadership and managerial capabilities; success in trial assignments to managerial and/or administrative tasks.
