Payroll Operations Accountant

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Payroll Operations Accountant in Sterling, VA. Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to support payroll processing and accounting operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll administration while assisting with reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close activities, and financial reporting. Key Responsibilities: Payroll:

• Process biweekly or semi-monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees
• Review payroll data for accuracy, including pay rates, deductions, taxes, and benefit elections
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies
• Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing
• Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation

• Prepare payroll-related journal entries and general ledger postings
• Reconcile payroll, benefits, and tax accounts
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
• Prepare account reconciliations and variance analysis
• Assist with financial audits by providing documentation and schedules
• Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required
• 3+ years of payroll experience
• 2+ years of accounting or general ledger experience
• Experience with payroll software and ERP systems
• Strong understanding of payroll laws, payroll taxes, and accounting principles
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
