Police Officer (Emergency Operations Specialist)

Summary

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress Members of Congress employees visitors and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime disruption and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe secure and open environment.

Duties

As aPolice Officer (Emergency Operations Specialist) you will:

Maintainsituational awareness of events incidents and criminal activity as theyrelate to theUSCP operation or involving USCP personnel. Monitor allradio calls for law enforcementservices activities and closed circuit cameras. Monitor NationalCapital Region (NCR)airspace and work with interagency partners at the NCR CoordinationCenterto identify potential airspace security threats. Maintain knowledge of thecurrent locationof all congressional leadership. Make notifications tothe Chief of Police Assistant Chiefs ofPolice Duty Deputy andrepresentatives from the House and Senate Sergeants at Arms as wellas theArchitect of the Capitol when necessary. Ensure requests for assistance fromoutsideagencies are handled according to Department policies andprocedures.

Performthe following tasks in addition to the above during criticalincidents/special events:

Ensurelife safety notifications are made in accordance with the Command CentersNotificationMatrix or at the direction of the Watch Commander. Initiateappropriate actions in accordancewith the critical response plans for AirCondition and chemical biologicalradiological or nuclear the teleconference bridge to facilitate communicationsandsituational awareness between units in the field Command CenterCommunications andUSCP Command Staff. Assist Incident Commanders asappropriate. Notify and coordinate withcongressional stakeholdersoutside law enforcement and other agencies as needed by theIncidentCommander. Facilitate the response of the Department and outside resourcesasrequested/needed by the Incident Commander. Document actions taken bythe Department.

Requirements

Conditions of employment

Must be a current USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant. At a minimum must have attained the rank of Private with Training and must have completed USCP probationary period by the closing date of this announcement. Must possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. drivers license. Work will be within the District of Columbia commuting area. However work assignments to remote locations such as Manassas Virginia may be required on an as needed basis. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance. Must be able to work at off-site locations after security clearance is obtained.

Qualifications

Allapplicants must meet the following eligibility factors in order to beconsidered for the position of Police Officer (Emergency OperationsSpecialist):

Must be aUSCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant. Must have attained the rank ofPrivate with Training and must have completed USCP probationary period by theclosing date of this announcement.

Mustsatisfactorily complete all job-related training to include the Command CenterField Training Officer (FTO) Program.

Mustmaintain all required job-related certifications.

Must beable to maintain a Top-Secret clearance.

Must beable to work at off-site locations after security clearance is obtained.

Mustcomplete a one-year probationary period upon completion of the Command CenterFTO program.

Must be infull and unrestricted duty status as of the selection date.

Mustpossess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. drivers license.

Education

There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade.

This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions. This position is not included in a collective bargaining unit. Note: Multiple vacancies exist. The number of Police Officer (Emergency Operations Specialist) positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. The selection list will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the selection memorandum.
