Position Overview

Our client is a well-established family office and diversified investment organization with interests across a broad portfolio of operating companies, real estate, and other investments.

The organization is seeking an experienced Controller to join its accounting and finance team in a highly visible role supporting the family office and its portfolio of investments.

This opportunity is particularly well suited for an accounting professional who combines strong technical accounting, financial reporting, and CPA-level expertise with the judgment, discretion, and flexibility required in a family office environment.

Unlike a traditional corporate accounting role, this position will provide exposure to a wide variety of businesses, entities, investments, and financial matters. The Controller will work closely with senior leadership and other key stakeholders while helping maintain the accuracy, integrity, and quality of financial reporting across the organization.

Essential Responsibilities

• Support and oversee accounting and financial reporting activities across the family office and its diversified portfolio of businesses and investments.

• Assist with the month-end and year-end soft-close process , ensuring financial information is accurate, complete, and prepared in a timely manner.

• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, management reports, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

• Maintain a high standard of financial reporting and accounting accuracy across multiple entities.

• Identify and manage financial risk through the continued development, refinement, and implementation of internal controls and accounting best practices .

• Evaluate existing accounting processes and recommend improvements that strengthen controls, reporting accuracy, efficiency, and visibility.

• Support the preparation of financial information and reporting for ownership, senior leadership, outside advisors, and other stakeholders.

• Assist with complex accounting matters and ensure appropriate application of accounting principles and policies.

• Partner with internal accounting personnel, outside CPA firms, tax professionals, investment professionals, property management teams, and other advisors as needed.

• Support accounting activities associated with investments, operating companies, and real estate holdings.

• Assist with audit, tax, and other financial reporting requirements by coordinating schedules, documentation, and supporting information.

• Monitor balance sheet accounts and ensure appropriate reconciliation, documentation, and resolution of outstanding items.

• Help maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and controls across the organization.

• Provide financial analysis and reporting as requested by senior leadership.

• Take ownership of special projects and accounting initiatives that may arise within the family office or its portfolio companies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred , although relevant professional experience will also be considered.

• Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred. Candidates with either an active or inactive CPA license will be considered.

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience , including experience in an accounting leadership or senior-level accounting capacity.

• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting background.

• Experience within commercial real estate, commercial property management, investment management, private investment, or a family office environment is highly desirable.

• Experience working with multiple entities, business units, properties, or investment structures is preferred.

• Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, internal controls, and month-end/year-end close processes.

• Ability to analyze financial information, identify inconsistencies, and communicate findings clearly.

• High level of discretion and professionalism when working with confidential financial and personal information.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

• Comfortable working closely with ownership, senior executives, outside advisors, and other key stakeholders.

• Strong judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy.
