Assistant Controller

A growing, PE backed Sports/ SAAS company is looking to hire an Assistant Controller

The company has grown recently through acquisition and this is a newly created role to support the controller and oversee an accounting team of five. This person will play a key role in working with external auditors, supporting multiple entities, and supporting M&A activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activities, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial results.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules for completeness and accuracy.
• Oversee accounting activities across multiple entities, including intercompany transactions and consolidated reporting.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and maintain strong internal accounting controls.
• Oversee revenue recognition and other technical accounting matters.
• Coordinate external audits, prepare supporting documentation, and serve as a key contact for auditors.
• Support the integration of new business operations, accounting processes, and financial systems.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows, improve reporting, and enhance operational efficiency.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting accountability and professional growth.
• Partner with senior finance leadership on accounting initiatives, reporting improvements, and business growth.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Progressive accounting experience, including experience managing/ supervising a team
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience managing month-end close processes and reviewing financial statements.
• Experience working with multiple legal entities, intercompany accounting, and consolidations.
• Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or developing accounting professionals.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with ERP accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation.
• Public accounting experience.
• Experience supporting business integrations, organizational expansion, or accounting system implementations.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Experience leading or coordinating external audits.
• Background in a growing, privately held, or multi-entity organization.

$130,000–$140,000 base salary , great benefits, unlimited PTO plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus.
