Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Casualty Underwriter to join our growing E&S team. This role is responsible for underwriting complex primary and excess casualty risks across various industries, ensuring profitability, growth, and adherence to company guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of E&S underwriting, strong analytical and decision-making skills, and the ability to cultivate productive relationships with wholesale brokers. Key Responsibilities Risk Evaluation & Underwriting: Underwrite new and renewal accounts for general liability, excess liability, and other casualty lines within E&S guidelines and authority. Assess exposures, coverage needs, pricing adequacy, and policy terms for complex risks. Analyze loss trends, financial data, and other risk factors to determine appropriate underwriting actions. Broker & Market Relations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to drive profitable business growth. Negotiate terms and conditions to meet underwriting standards and client needs. Provide superior customer service and timely responses to broker submissions and inquiries. Monitor and manage portfolio performance to ensure adherence to company profitability goals. Identify market trends, emerging risks, and opportunities to refine underwriting strategies. Collaborate with actuaries, claims, and legal teams to enhance risk selection and pricing models. Provide guidance and training to junior underwriters and underwriting assistants. Participate in underwriting audits and process improvement initiatives. Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and broker meetings. Qualifications & Experience Required: 5+ years of underwriting experience in excess & surplus casualty insurance. Strong knowledge of E&S guidelines, forms, and industry-specific exposures. Established relationships with wholesale brokers and a deep understanding of distribution channels. Proven ability to assess, price, and structure coverage for complex risks. Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Business, Finance, or a related field. Professional designations such as CPCU, ASLI, or CIC. Experience with underwriting platforms and analytics tools. Competitive base salary with performance-based incentives.
