About NeuroBionics NeuroBionics, an MIT neurotechnology spinout, is developing novel implantable devices that interface seamlessly with the human body to treat neurological conditions. Leveraging over a decade of innovation, we have engineered a novel neural interface using microscale, flexible, bioelectronic fibers that can be delivered into the body through minimally invasive endovascular approaches. By making neural interfacing a minimally invasive procedure, we aim to revolutionize deep brain stimulation and broaden access to life‑changing neuromodulation therapies to millions of patients. About the Role: We are seeking a Senior Scientist to support the preclinical validation of our endovascular neuromodulation platform and spearhead the characterization and optimization of the long‑term durability and stability of our stimulation lead. In this role, you will be designing and executing animal studies that demonstrate the safety and efficacy of our evFiber lead across multiple therapeutic targets, and building the scientific evidence to support our regulatory program. Alongside the preclinical work, you will take ownership of characterizing the long‑term stability and durability of the evFiber lead, with the guidance and direction of an expert external consultant in electrode materials science and electrochemical characterization. Your role is to execute this work collaboratively, bring a scientific lens to interpreting the results, and translate findings into design improvements. You will work closely with our Head of Innovation, CTO, and engineering team, and will be a key contributor to our regulatory submissions and clinical trials. Job title will be adjusted based on experience. This is an extraordinary opportunity to join a small, early‑stage, VC‑backed neurotechnology startup and shape the scientific direction of a cutting‑edge implantable technology with the potential to treat millions of patients. This position will be on‑site in Cambridge, MA. What you’ll do: Duties and responsibilities In this role, you will be responsible for two interconnected areas: (1) designing and executing preclinical animal studies to validate the neuromodulation efficacy and safety of the evFiber platform, and (2) characterizing and improving the long‑term stability of the evFiber lead, supported by an expert external consultant. Preclinical Animal Studies — Neuromodulation Validation Design and implement in vivo animal studies testing the evFiber neuromodulation platform across multiple therapeutic targets (e.g., vagus nerve, peripheral nerves, deep brain targets). Develop evidence‑based stimulation paradigms by reviewing the neuromodulation literature, and define appropriate outcome measures and controls for each target and indication. Record, process, and analyze electrophysiology data and other physiologic endpoints (e.g., stimulation‑evoked neural activity, cardiovascular responses, autonomic effects) to demonstrate neuromodulation efficacy. Perform quantitative data analysis and results visualization on electrophysiology time series and physiologic datasets; synthesize findings into clear scientific reports and presentations. Contribute to preclinical study reports and regulatory documentation in support of 510(k) or IDE submissions. Stay current with the neuromodulation literature across central and peripheral targets; identify relevant benchmarks and translate insights into study design and stimulation parameters. Electrode & Lead Characterization — Chronic Stability Working closely with our expert external consultant in electrode materials science and electrochemical characterization, you will: Execute electrochemical characterization of the electrodes on the evFiber lead — including impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, charge injection capacity, and charge storage capacity measurements — under the guidance of our external consultant. Assist in designing and running accelerated aging experiments to evaluate long‑term electrode and lead stability; interpret results against FDA/ISO safety standards and Shannon charge injection limits. Help identify and characterize failure modes of the current lead design (e.g., moisture ingress, electrode corrosion or oxidation, encapsulation breakdown) and contribute to design improvement efforts. Collaborate with the engineering team to prototype and test encapsulation and materials strategies aimed at enhancing the chronic durability and performance of the evFiber lead. Qualifications: We seek talented and driven team members who thrive in a dynamic, independent, and results‑oriented environment. We are looking for a scientist with deep roots in neuromodulation and in vivo electrophysiology, who brings genuine intellectual curiosity about neural interfaces and the ambition to help bring a first‑in‑class device into the clinic. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience across more than one neuromodulation therapy — for example, spanning both central (e.g., deep brain stimulation) and peripheral or autonomic (e.g., vagus nerve stimulation) targets — and is as comfortable designing a stimulation paradigm as they are analyzing the physiologic data it generates. We seek a creative, independent problem solver who thrives in a fast‑paced startup environment and who is excited to own a critical piece of our scientific program. Required Qualifications: PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with a track record of academic excellence. Hands‑on experience designing and executing preclinical animal studies to evaluate the function and efficacy of neuromodulation or neural interfacing devices. Experience developing stimulation paradigms and recording stimulation‑evoked electrophysiology or downstream physiologic effects of neuromodulation. Proficiency in analysis and visualization of electrophysiology time series and physiologic datasets. Neuromodulation experience spanning multiple targets — ideally including both central nervous system and peripheral or autonomic nervous system. Familiarity with neural interfacing electrode properties and a working understanding of electrochemical characterization — sufficient to execute measurements and interpret results with expert guidance. Working knowledge of safe charge injection limits (Shannon limits) and basic understanding of how electrode geometry relates to stimulation performance. Creative, self‑directed problem solver who is comfortable diving into the scientific literature and translating findings into experimental design and stimulation parameters. Comfortable working in a fast‑paced startup environment, wearing multiple hats, and stepping up as needed on a small, high‑performing team. Preferred Qualifications: 3+ years of industry experience working on active implantable neuromodulation devices or neural interfaces (e.g., neurostimulation leads, DBS systems, cochlear implants, peripheral nerve stimulators) under a formal quality management system. Experience contributing to regulatory submissions (510(k), IDE, or PMA) or preclinical study reports for regulatory filings. Experience in electrochemical characterization of stimulation electrodes — including impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, charge injection and charge storage capacity. Experience designing or executing accelerated aging experiments for neural interfaces or implantable leads. Understanding of materials science and encapsulation strategies for chronically implanted neural interfaces — including failure modes such as moisture ingress, electrode corrosion, and delamination. Experience with electrical connector interfaces for active implantable devices (e.g., IS‑4, DF‑4, ball‑seal, or similar standards used in DBS or cardiac rhythm management). What we offer: Mission‑driven and collaborative work environment Competitive and experience‑guided compensation with strong equity package 3 weeks flexible vacation + 1.5 weeks company shutdown Comprehensive benefits plan including: Health, dental and vision insurance Parental & medical leave Life and long‑term disability insurance 401(k) Health & wellness benefit Opportunity to work at a fast‑growing startup on one of the most impactful problems in neurotechnology and help change patients’ lives How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit the following application materials: Resume A short (~250) cover letter highlighting how your qualifications align with this position Contact information for two references Join us in shaping the future of neurotechnology! #J-18808-Ljbffr PetsApp
