Job Description Position Purpose The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds. The incumbent will possess a basic knowledge of electrical and all hazards. Primary Duties / Responsibilities Assist skilled trade employees in performing operations and maintenance on plant equipment and buildings. Perform preventive maintenance functions, including lubrication of equipment, disassembly and reassembly of pumps. Perform custodial and clean‑up work on plant grounds such as cutting grass, snow removal and trash pick‑up, and in buildings such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, washing windows, scrubbing walls and vacuuming. Perform manual labor functions as assigned. Perform minor maintenance services on vehicles and equipment such as washing, tightening chains, replacing cables and bolts, checking tire inflation and lubricating according to manufacturers’ schedules. Perform regular checks of equipment condition, noting deficiencies and following maintenance scheduling procedures, schedule necessary maintenance or replacement. Clean and prepare surfaces to be painted, apply paint and varnish to buildings and equipment, and perform sign lettering as assigned. Recommend materials and supplies needed, advise management on specific applications and maintain inventory. Provide coverage for Bio‑Solids Loader in the event of staffing issues. Observe all on‑the‑job safety regulations. Other related tasks as assigned. Work Environment Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. Incumbents may be occasionally exposed to noise, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents and vibration. Incumbents may work on slippery or uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects or vehicles, ladder or scaffolding, below ground and may be exposed to water or other liquid materials. Maintain a high level of focus on health, safety and environment, ensuring safety within all activities. Qualifications Education / Experience / Background High School Diploma or GED is required. At least one year of related trade experience. Minimum two years of on‑site training. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to utilize materials, methods, tools and equipment used in the day‑to‑day maintenance of buildings and grounds. Ability to adhere to all policies and regulations regarding safety. Ability to communicate written and orally. Knowledge and/or ability to safely operate all hand or power tools related to the job. Familiar with all safety regulations and prepared to work in and supervise confined spaces and LOTO procedures (training provided). Ability to manipulate and understand the required functions of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Vehicle and Heavy Equipment Operations: pickup truck(s), forklift or other powered industrial truck, mobile and truck crane. Required Certifications / Licenses / Training Hold and maintain a NYS driver’s license – Commercial Driver’s License preferred and the ability to meet risk management guidelines.
