Registered Nurse - Emergency Room - Full Time 12 Hour Day Shift (Union)

Responsibilities As an integral member of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse supports the Chief Nursing Officer in leading the patient care team to provide safety, recovery and comfort to patients by implementing the nursing process (assessment, nursing diagnosis, developing the plan of care and education plan; implementation of interventions, evaluation of interventions and revision of plan as needed) and providing education and advocacy. The RN must practice compliance with mandatory regulations such as CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, CDPH regulations, and DNV-GL/NIAHO standards. The RN supports the department manager and director in quality improvement and in the growth of unit services; demonstrates leadership in collaboration with teammates and other departments; and manages efficient services with meaningful and valuable outcomes. Decision-Making Authority Patient care within the scope of practice: The RN is expected to practice at the full extent of legal scope of practice based on education, training, and competency; make judgments and decisions about patient care and act on assessments performed. Patient acuity based on classification method: The RN defines patient acuity according to the patient classification decision‑making method. RNs are accountable for providing a healing environment for recovery and safe passage of patients through their episode of care; for preventing harm; for educating patients about their condition and self‑care actions; and for reporting abnormal findings timely to the care giver. Executive Functions Planning: Assists the charge nurse with planning delivery of patient care for the shift and contributes to overall unit planning and improvement. Directing: Precepts and validates new hires' competency; teaches nursing students; ensures new procedures are followed. Delegating: Delegates tasks to other RNs, LVNs, and CNAs as indicated. Coordinating: Coordinates the assigned team. Communicating: Sets expectations to assigned staff regarding interventions and reports, identifies improvement opportunities, shares information through the chain of command, and communicates unusual events. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Minimum Education: Graduation from a Registered Nurse Program; BSN desired (if not obtained upon hire, will obtain within five preferred years). Minimum Experience/Knowledge: One year clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred; experience in treating orthopedic and stroke patient populations is a plus. For Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses One year nursing experience in an acute care setting such as ICU, step‑down, or ER preferred. One year or more IR, EP, or Cardiac Cath Lab experience preferred. For 6th Floor Med/Surg Employees Two years’ experience with orthopedic and medical‑surgical nursing preferred. Certification in medical‑surgical, orthopedic, or another specialty preferred. Required Licenses and Certifications California Registered Nurse License is required. Certification in a clinical specialty or management is desired. Surgery: BLS, ACLS PACU/SDS/ GI Lab: BLS, ACLS, PALS Cath Lab: BLS, ACLS ED: BLS, ACLS, PALS, AB508 (within 30 days of hire), NIHSS (within 30 days of hire), NRP (within 6 months of hire), ENPC (within 12 months of hire) Geropsych: BLS, AB508 (within 30 days of hire) ICU/5S, 4th Telemetry, 6th Med Surg and Float Pool: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (within 30 days of hire) BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP must be AHA certified. All certifications must be active effective from the date of hire or transfer unless otherwise indicated. Compensation The hourly rate range for this position is $47.58 to $76.68.
