The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance to specialists addressing integrated primary prevention activities to effectively prevent negative outcomes associated with sexual assault and harassment, family violence, workplace violence, suicide, and alcohol abuse/misuse prevention.

Duties

Help

  • Performs developmental assignments to assist with implementation of all aspects of integrated prevention program planning of prevention activities for the installation.
  • Performs developmental work assignments to implement, maintain, and provide assistance wit the development of CAT/CAB materials.
  • Conducts special assignment in keeping with the formal training plan.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

-OR-

Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

To qualify for a GS-07: Completion of 1 full year of graduate level education, or bachelor's degree with Superior academic Achievement as provided in the "General Policies and Instructions" for Qualifications Standards Operating Manual, or 5 academic years of pre-professional study, or 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include interviewing, assessing clients' needs and concerns (e.g. family separation, parenting, child care, elder care, etc.) and evaluating and interpreting data received from interviews; providing counseling on work/life issues and interest areas such as personal financial management, employment, community life, transition, relocation, emergency/crisis assistance, personal and family readiness, and other work/life issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES ( KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Professional knowledge of social services delivery systems as well as a wide range of concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields.

2. Skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services/options when frequently there is difficulty in determining clients' needs or wants or in convincing them to accept that problems exist.

3. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals/families, leadership of organizations, and with program representatives and officials.

4. Ability to assess and measure organizations' trends, concerns, and needs; assist in identifying and prioritizing goals; and provide guidance and direction for the development and implementation of effective plans and tools to address such issues.

5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE : Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

This position has an education requirement. You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Any individual who was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education from an institution not more than two years before the date of appointment meets the basic eligibility requirement to apply for the PATHWAYS Recent Graduates Program;

OR

Any individual who has completed a period of obligated service in a uniformed service, and was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education not more than six years before the closing of this announcement meets the basic eligibility requirement to apply for the PATHWAYS Recent Graduates Program. The eligibility period cannot extend beyond six years from the date on which the individual completed the requirements of an academic course of study or qualifying career or technical education program.

Please submit copies of all transcripts, to include transferred hours-official copies are not required at time of application. If selected, you will be required to provide official copies of all transcripts. NOTE: Degree Audits are not accepted.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

AFTER PROGRAM COMPLETION:
  • Recent Graduates who are selected for conversion must have completed all requirements of the program successfully
  • Demonstrated successful job performance consistent with the applicable performance appraisal program
  • Met the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualification standard for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted

NOTE: It is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that the Department of the Air Force will offer conversion.

Appointments under the Recent Graduates Program may be for 1 or 2 years depending on the position. After completing the 1 or 2 year period as a Recent Graduate, you may be noncompetitively converted into a term or permanent position and placed on a "career or career-conditional" appointment. However, service in a Pathways Recent Graduate Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive service.
