Director of Student Planning & Outreach

General Definition of Work The Director of Student Planning & Outreach, under minimal supervision, performs senior-level work with considerable decision-making leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of data-driven systems that support student assignment, enrollment, and planning strategies. The position leverages data analytics, automation, and digital tools to improve operational efficiency, inform decision-making, and enhance transparency across student planning processes. It oversees enrollment projections, school boundaries, continuation patterns, and school choice processes while building scalable systems and workflows to support district-wide planning initiatives. The employee performs advanced work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Planning & Outreach. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures. Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff. Investigate, analyze, and formulate methods for handling special projects/reports. Apply project management procedures and best practices to department initiatives. Continuously assess, design, and enhance data systems, tools, and workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in student planning processes. Prepare recommendations related to student assignment boundaries and continuation patterns. Develop and execute marketing and enrollment strategies (both short- and long-term) aligned with the goals and objectives of the district. Promote internal and external communication to improve transparency, access, and enrollment; develop enrollment projection and recruitment strategies. Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including families and community partners. Collaborate with Communications to develop marketing collateral. Utilize data analytics to track trends and inform decision-making. Conduct market research and demographic analysis. Monitor and participate in departmental budget development. Coordinate planning and outreach work across departments. Design, develop, and optimize data systems, dashboards, and tools to support student planning and enrollment processes. Identify opportunities to automate manual workflows and improve efficiency through technology solutions. Lead the integration and use of data platforms (e.g., GIS mapping tools, dashboards, data visualization tools). Collaborate to implement scalable technology solutions. Translate complex data into actionable insights to inform decisions and recommendations. Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accessibility across systems. Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required. Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training. Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations. Perform related work as assigned or required. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in a related area preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in planning or program choice preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable. Special Requirements Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation. Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force. Regular oral and written communication of accurate and detailed information. Constant use of a computer and other office equipment. Ability to remain in a stationary position for required meetings/work. Ability to move to other work locations. Visual acuity sufficient to prepare and analyze written or computer data and observe general surroundings. Hearing sufficient to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and receive detailed information through oral communications. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and using advanced technology. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic). Ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Adaptability to perform under mild to high levels of stress. Compensation and Term Pay Grade 10 / Full-time, 12 months. Term: 12 months. Reporting Structure Reports To: Executive Director of Student Planning & Outreach. Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools.
