SUMMARY:
This role performs all routine and complex laboratory procedures including specimen processing, testing patient specimens, calculating, and reporting results. Responsibilities include operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, quality control, development of new procedures, and patient-oriented tasks such as phlebotomy as needed. Must have excellent transfusion service (blood banking) skills.


SHIFT: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM; 5 days a week, 8 hours/day


RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform all laboratory procedures accurately, with competency in blood banking techniques.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on laboratory instruments.
• Cross-train across multiple laboratory sections as needed.
• Follow proper quality control protocols.
• Calculate and verify laboratory results, utilize Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Notify and document critical lab values.
• Handle patient specimens with attention to minimal pediatric volumes when required.
• Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new testing procedures.
• Deliver patient care that respects age, developmental, cultural, and psychosocial needs.
• Adhere to organizational values and comply with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Skills:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience as per CLIA regulations.
• OR equivalent credentialing evaluated by an accepted agency.

Experience:

• No experience required for graduates of approved clinical laboratory training programs.
• OR minimum of 1-year approved clinical laboratory experience including blood banking, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, urinalysis, or related fields within the last 5 years.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Certification as MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
• Maintenance and currency of certification if applicable.
• New graduates must complete board certification within 1 year of hire (excludes Louisiana).

Work Schedule:

• 5 days a week, 8 hours daily, shift from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
