Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor - Data Center Construction

We are seeking an experienced Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor to support the successful delivery of major data centre construction projects. This role will provide commercial and cost management expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and procurement through to construction, commissioning and final account settlement. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, designers, contractors, suppliers and client representatives to protect commercial interests while maintaining a strong focus on quality, programme and delivery objectives.


Key responsibilities will include developing and maintaining cost plans, budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections; preparing feasibility studies and cost estimates; reviewing designs for value, buildability and cost efficiency; and managing tendering, procurement and subcontractor evaluation processes. You will monitor commitments, expenditure, variations, change control, risks and progress against approved budgets, producing accurate commercial reports for senior stakeholders. The role will also involve reviewing applications for payment, assessing variations and claims, supporting contract negotiations, maintaining effective cost records and contributing to the preparation and agreement of final accounts. A strong understanding of data centre construction, including complex mechanical, electrical and specialist systems, will be highly beneficial.


Applicants should hold a degree or professional qualification in quantity surveying, commercial management, construction economics or a related discipline, with substantial experience in a cost management or quantity surveying role within construction or engineering. Experience delivering large-scale, technically complex projects-ideally data centres, critical infrastructure or other mission-critical environments-is preferred. You should have excellent knowledge of construction contracts, procurement routes, cost reporting and change management, together with strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills. The ability to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and operate effectively in a fast-paced project environment is essential. Professional accreditation or progress toward chartered status would be advantageous.
