Instructional Assistant - Transitional Kindergarten

Position: Support Staff (Transitional Kindergarten) – Santa Margarita Elementary (OCEANSIDE Unified School District). Hours: 6 hour day, 10‑month term. The role reports to a site administrator and a credentialed teacher(s). The primary responsibility is to assist in instructional activities, facilitate student engagement, and provide care and supervision to TK students. Responsibilities Assist teachers and students in the TK classroom, both individually and in small groups. Support the creation, implementation, and monitoring of instructional plans. Encourage student interaction with the curriculum, learning environment, and peers. Maintain classroom order and classroom procedures while promoting appropriate student conduct. Record observations and report student behavior and progress as per school policies. Operate standard office and classroom equipment and perform related clerical tasks. Follow written, oral, and teacher‑directed instructions. Provide a caring and supportive atmosphere for TK students. Qualifications & Requirements Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; equivalent education and extensive experience working with children (paid or volunteer) is acceptable. Knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior; experience with general concepts taught in district schools. Basic instructional methods, techniques, and strategies. Proficiency in English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Strong oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Basic record‑keeping skills, familiarity with classroom procedures, and the ability to apply rules, regulations, standards, and procedures. Capacity to supervise, support, and engage TK learners in a safe and inclusive environment. Ability to work confidentially, demonstrate discretion, and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues. Applicants with the required qualifications will be considered for this position.
