Accountant

We are seeking an experienced and committed Accountant to join our dynamic and innovative organization. The Accountant will be part of a team with financial integrity as its goal to support Project Harmony people and programs. The Accountant’s role will include responsibility for preparing accurate and timely financial information and working closely with the Finance Team in the review and analysis of this information. This position will be tasked with month-end financial statement processing and monthly grant tracking, allocation and reporting. The Accountant will work directly with the Finance Manager and collaborate with program and agency leaders to ensure that details for financial allocations, grant accounting, budgets, and projections are accurate, timely, documented and relevant. Our Values Project Harmony and all employees are committed to creating a culture that is focused on: Diversity and Inclusion: Respect and embrace diversity and inclusion of all Strategic Innovation: Lead the field in response to the evolving needs of children and families Quality Service: Ensure consistent, high-quality service with impactful results, to our families, our partner agencies, the community, and each other Collaborative Relationships: Build trusted relationships by leading with honesty, integrity, vulnerability, and humility Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare journal entries and cost allocations for posting to the general ledger to ensure financial statements are accurately presented Reconcile bank accounts monthly and perform related journal entries Process cash receipt and deposit transactions Support payroll and grant accounting processes assigned Reconcile and prepare financial support for general ledger accounts and recommend adjustments where necessary; assist in identifying trends in account activity and financial presentations Follow timely month-end procedures for processing accurate financial information Assist the Finance Manager with the annual financial audit process and work with the independent auditors Assist in financial policy updates for the agency that reflect best practices in the field Keep current on accounting and auditing standards Maintain technical knowledge and acquire new accounting skills to ensure Project Harmony is fully adhering to non-profit and industry standards Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, as needed, to maximize the quality of work within the duties and responsibilities listed Ensure culturally competent services are provided without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation Complete special projects and other accounting-related duties as assigned Requirements Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or finance or related field Experience and Training 3+ years of progressive accounting experience required Non-profit accounting experience preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Demonstrate attention to accuracy and detail to reduce the amount of accounting corrections required Exercise strong organizational and time management skills Proficient in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, and experienced with accounting software with modular processing platforms Conceptualize how financial data should be processed and organized based on the audience Own a solid knowledge of fiscal management systems Possess excellent analytical skills in order to provide feedback on more efficient ways to track or report financial data and assess the reporting needs of each program area Demonstrate excellent communication skills (written, verbal and active listening) Prepared to build relationships and work collaboratively with co-workers, vendors, donors and business partners Exhibit a self-starter attitude and work independently as well as part of a team Demonstrate strong problem solving and decision-making skills Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines Bring an exceptional work ethic Respect and maintain confidentiality Other Must be willing to work flexible hours Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance Position may involve some travel, primarily within the state The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
