Internship Overview This unpaid internship is for Parole/Probation Interns in Field Offices in Regions 9-10 for the 2026 Summer Semester (May–August 2026). The internship is available in various counties and is designed to develop the competencies needed for a career as a Parole/Probation Agent. Responsibilities Review policy and procedures for MDOC Attend court proceedings related to sentencing, arraignments, and probation violations Assist in the development of pre‑sentence reports Report daily interactions with offenders and conduct offender home calls under MDOC staff supervision Develop parole/probation violation reports Utilize electronic monitoring supervision system Other projects as assigned depending on office specialty Assist parole staff in developing and facilitating job‑readiness and other support programs Track job placement and employment retention outcomes Provide research assistance and data collection on reentry programs, policies, and practices Collaborate with contracted prisoner reentry service providers, other law‑enforcement representatives, and community organizations Assist in administering risk assessments and developing case plans Identify and refer parolees to local community resources Participate in special assignments as directed by the parole supervisor Eligibility and Application Requirements Must be enrolled in a college or university Have good written and verbal communication skills Minimum GPA of 2.5 Must pass a LEIN background check Must pass a fingerprinting screen through the Department’s designated source Must pass pre‑employment drug screening Applicants must be academically enrolled and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, sociology, school social work, social work administration, educational psychology, family relations, human services, theology, or a related field.
