Employment Counselor – Minneapolis, MN Position: The Minnesota Training Partnership (MTP) is seeking a full‑time Employment Counselor to provide comprehensive employment assistance to lower‑income individuals seeking stable, household‑sustaining jobs. The position is sometimes remote but largely in‑office at the United Labor Centre in Minneapolis and other community‑based program locations. About MTP: MTP is an experienced and successful provider of workforce development services that connect people to union jobs. Established by the Minnesota AFL‑CIO in 2017, MTP is a 501(c)(3) organization with strong connections to unions and employers to benefit program participants. Position Overview The Employment Counselor will support job seekers at United Labor Centre and other locations by providing individualized counseling, career planning, readiness training, and job placement support, especially for those facing systemic barriers to employment. The role involves building relationships with unions, employers, and community organizations to help participants enter sustainable careers. Key Responsibilities Outreach and Engagement : Conduct individual and group outreach to engage lower‑income people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including BIPOC, immigrants, English language learners, women, and those experiencing housing instability or unemployment. Use in‑person, telephone, email, Zoom, and Teams outreach to meet enrollment goals and determine program eligibility. Training Services : Train participants in employability topics such as job search, resume writing, interviewing skills, digital literacy, work readiness, job retention, and household financial management. Use person‑centered, trauma‑informed strategies and offer individual or group instruction via in‑person or online formats. Case Management : Assist participants in accessing services, aligning interests with high‑demand occupations, and creating individualized employment plans using Workforce One. Provide coaching, monitor progress, and serve as a one‑stop resource during program participation. Resource Coordination : Connect participants to community resources like childcare, transportation, and housing assistance, and maintain relationships with other service providers. Job Placement : Engage employers and unions to discover open positions, distribute opportunities, assist with applications and resumes, and facilitate introductions for work‑ready participants. Retention Services : Maintain contact with participants up to 12 months post‑placement to support job retention, address challenges, and facilitate networking and skill building. Program Administration : Manage enrollment, documentation, and tracking in Workforce One; keep accurate records; report on outcomes; and meet program goals related to retention, training completion, and earnings. Cultural Competency : Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse backgrounds, continually improve inclusiveness, and advocate for participant needs within the organization and the community. Pay and Benefits This is a union position earning $52,000–$56,000 per year DOQ, with a generous benefits package including 401(k), 100% payroll‑paid medical/dental/vision premiums, car and cell allowance, paid time off (vacation, health, holidays), and more.
