Metal Sorter

Sorts scrap metal according to grade and size by performing the duties outlined below.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Removes metal/plastic from sorting table, hand-truck, or conveyor and stacks in piles or places in rack or on conveyor, according to grade of the metal/plastic.
• Gauges types of metal/plastic by sight on sorting table.
• Keeps work area clean.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to twelve months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
