Mid‑Senior Level | Full‑time – Livermore, CA – 05/20/2026 – Reference #: REF8368L – Job Code: 863.2 Boiler & Pressure Sys Mech II – Organization: Infrastructure and Operations – Position Type: Career Indefinite – Anticipated DOE Q Clearance (U.S. citizenship and federal background investigation required) – Drug Test required for selected external applicants – Medical exam may be required Job Description Boiler & Pressure Systems Mechanic II – Install, operate, maintain, and repair packaged boilers and pressure systems for heating, HVAC, process steam, and laboratory utilities. Work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities Department. Perform journey‑level boiler technician work, including troubleshooting, installation, operation, and maintenance of hot water boilers, low‑pressure steam boilers, thermal fluid systems, medium pressure steam generating equipment (including ASME Section I steam boilers), low NOx burners, and related systems. Include combustion tuning, Burner Management System programming, and steam boiler water treatment testing. Install, operate, maintain, and repair a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment using hand tools, power tools, and specialty tools. Provide effective customer service and communication to peers, supervisors, customers, ES&H technicians, and other craft personnel. Analyze complex data and prepare logs (boiler and water treatment), standard reports, permit requirements, deficiency forms, and preventive maintenance work requests. Use a computer and handheld electronic device for daily work orders, time reporting, and web‑based training. Work scheduled and emergency overtime. Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance (U.S. citizenship required). High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Completion of an apprenticeship training program and/or significant equivalent journey‑to‑advanced‑level experience with commercial packaged hot water and steam boilers, and low and high‑pressure steam systems. Intermediate to advanced skills, knowledge, and experience in troubleshooting, operating, and maintaining steam boilers, hot water boilers, thermal fluid heaters, expansion tanks, pumps, valves, water treatment, PLC‑based burner management systems, and electrical components, including basic AC and DC circuits. Experience with hand tools, power tools, and instruments such as combustion analyzers, manometers, electrical metering, and circuit testing equipment, and water treatment testing equipment. Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, customer service orientation, independence, and ability to work cross‑functionally. Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and other protective equipment and perform moderate work while wearing full‑face or half‑mask respirators. Experience applying and following state and federal safety regulations; ability to obtain and maintain required training and certifications, including Competent Worker or equivalent qualifications. Basic computer skills with handheld electronic devices for work orders, time reporting, and web‑based training. Valid California driver’s license and ability to work scheduled, on‑call, and emergency overtime. Pay Range $50.47 – $61.34 per hour. This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement and step structure. Step placement will be determined after qualifications are fully assessed during the interview process.
