Role Description The Mechanical Estimator role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates for HVAC, Plumbing and mechanical projects from concept through final proposal. On a day-to-day basis, this role reviews drawings and specifications, performs detailed takeoffs of mechanical systems, and analyzes labor, material, and subcontractor costs. The Mechanical Estimator requests and evaluates vendor and subcontractor quotes, identifies value-engineering opportunities, and prepares clear, well-documented estimate summaries and proposals. This hybrid position is based in Redmond, WA, with work performed both on-site for meetings, plan reviews, and collaboration, and from home for focused estimating and documentation. The role also coordinates closely with project managers, engineers, and leadership to support bid strategies, maintain estimating tools and databases, and assist with project handoff after award. Qualifications Values safety and incorporates safe work practices in developing estimates and prices risk. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical and HVAC drawings, specifications, and scopes of work, including plans for ducts, piping, and equipment layouts. Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical systems using spreadsheets or estimating software. Strong analytical and math skills to develop accurate labor and material budgets, assess risks, and validate subcontractor and vendor proposals. Effective written and verbal communication skills to prepare clear proposals and collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and clients. Excellent organization and time management skills to handle multiple bids, meet deadlines, and maintain thorough estimate documentation. Ability to work productively in a hybrid environment in Redmond, WA, balancing on-site collaboration with independent work from home. Familiarity with HVAC systems, mechanical codes, and construction practices; field or project experience in mechanical or HVAC trades is a plus. Proficiency with standard office tools (e.g., Excel, Word, PDF markup) and comfort learning or using digital takeoff/estimating platforms. Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
