These departments include Family Birthing, Pediatrics, and NICU. They provide 24/7 specialized care to patients throughout their hospitalization and discharge. Position Overview The RN provides quality patient and family‑centered care as a member of the health‑care team in accordance with St.CharlesHealth System’s mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. Applies standards for professional nursing practice and focuses clinical care to enhance the experience for patients, families, and all others. As a nurse, this position oversees the work of other caregivers, providing specific care to assigned patient(s) throughout the shift, as required under the scope of the RN licensure. Essential Functions and Duties Maintains and demonstrates an in‑depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and applies this knowledge in accordance with St.CharlesHealth System policies and procedures and within laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon. Assesses the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment: sets outcomes; implements appropriate nursing actions and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient’s/family’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluates patient’s progress. Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately. Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies. Demonstrates awareness of and supports departmental and operating‑unit goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities. Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others. Communicates, both written and orally, effectively and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests. Identifies work‑related problems with possible solutions and implements solutions within scope of practice, as appropriate. Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects. Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change. Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of care and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver. Provides a therapeutic presence by responding to the needs of patients in a caring way, including introducing oneself and explaining one’s role in patient’s care, asking for the patient’s preferred name, sitting with the patient to determine care goals, active listening, and effective communication through touch, eye contact, etc. Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests. Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting ethically and appropriately, reporting violations, and cooperating with investigations. Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate. Performs stand‑by callback as assigned; may perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned. Education Required: RN licensure. Preferred: BSN. Licensure / Certification / Registration Required: Current Oregon RN license, AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. Preferred: Department‑specific acute‑care certification (e.g., RNC). Additional Requirements: PALS, NRP, and CodeGray training within 6months of hire; Stable within 6months; ACLS within six months. Experience Required: One year acute‑care experience in NICU, Pediatrics, or Postpartum/Neonatal care. Prior relevant experience must be within two years of date of application. Preferred: Department‑specific acute‑care experience in more than one WCS department. Additional Position Information Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St.CharlesHealth System. Must possess excellent organizational and multitasking skills, strong teamwork, collaborative, analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Basic to intermediate proficiency with computer applications, including electronic medical records and MSOffice. Physical Requirements Continually (75%+): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, clear and audible speaking voice, ability to hear normal speech level. Frequently (50%): Sitting; lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1–25pounds; operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers. Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step‑stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25–50pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech. Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs. Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step‑stool (varies), operation of a motor vehicle. Exposure to Elemental Factors: Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution. Never (0%): Heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface. Blood‑Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Category: Risk for Exposure to BBP. Schedule & Compensation Schedule: 36hours per week. Caregiver Type: Regular Shift – Third Shift (United States of America). Exempt Position: No. Job Family: REGISTERED NURSE – FAMILY BIRTHING.
