Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Pending license accepted Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Titration of vasopressors Sedation medication administration Insulin drips management Tracheostomy care Management of arterial lines Administration of chest tubes Description: The role involves working in a step-down unit that provides high-acuity patient care. Nurses will have a patient ratio of 1:4 during day shifts. Two shifts every other weekend are required. The unit focuses on patients transitioning from intensive care to a lower acuity setting. Nurses will manage complex medications, including vasopressors and sedation medications. Experience with cardiac telemetry and the care of ventilated patients is essential. Candidates must be skilled in interpreting arterial blood gases and managing dysrhythmias. Knowledge of procedures such as phlebotomy, central line management, and emergency response protocols is necessary. Interdisciplinary support from physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services is available. The unit emphasizes teamwork and collaboration among healthcare professionals. Travelers should be prepared to float to lower acuity floors as needed. All special procedures and equipment requirements must be met according to unit standards. The role requires compliance with all infection control and safety protocols. Daily census in the unit is approximately 25 patients with a total of 29 beds available. Successful candidates will demonstrate flexibility, strong clinical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
