Experienced Auto Defense, Municipal Liability or Insurance Coverage Attorney

Company Description Strikowsky Drachman & Shapiro PLLC is a civil litigation firm with a substantial concentration in defense litigation and insurance coverage. We have long-term relationships with great clients, from which we obtain interesting engagements that span from Labor Law, municipal liability, commercial fleet operations, toxic exposure (excluding asbestos) and many other types of matters. We are actively expanding and need experienced attorneys at all levels. We can keep attorneys with trial and appellate experience busy, but we will also invest in the right mid-level candidates if they reciprocate the commitment. Role Description This full-time hybrid role is for an experienced Auto Defense, Insurance Defense or Insurance Coverage Attorney based in the New York City Metropolitan Area, with some flexibility to work from home. The attorney will manage a caseload involving auto and other liability matters and/or insurance coverage matters, including drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery, and handling legal research and analysis. Day-to-day responsibilities include appearing in court, conducting depositions and hearings, negotiating settlements, and communicating with clients, carriers, and co-counsel. The coverage role also involves providing clear coverage opinions, advising clients on risk transfer strategies, and coordinating with firm partners on case strategy and litigation management. The attorney is expected to maintain organized files, meet deadlines, and to engage as a committed member of the team. Useful Skills and Qualifications Strong foundation in litigation, with specific experience in auto defense (commercial fleets/trucking), municipal liability, Legionnaires' or other toxic exposure (not asbestos), insurance coverage and/or civil litigation. Knowledge of New York Labor Law, commercial vehicles and related practice areas that intersect with defense work and insurance coverage. Ability to provide clear, practical legal advice to clients and carriers, strategic guidance and if applicable, production of coverage opinions and coverage position letters. Proficiency in research, including case law, statutes, regulations, and insurance policy interpretation. Effective negotiation skills for settlements, mediations, and case resolution, creative problem solving. Active license to practice law in New York; New Jersey admission strongly preferred or willingness to obtain. Several years of relevant litigation experience, ideally in auto defense, insurance coverage, or related defense work. Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, including motion practice, courtroom appearances, and deposition handling. Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
