Critical Care Float (Nursing)

The Critical Care Float position is designed for experienced nurses prepared to provide high-quality care across diverse units within the healthcare environment. This role requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to various patient needs and conditions.

Responsibilities

• Float to any unit within the hospital, including the Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU).
• Manage an assignment in Medical/Surgical (MS) units accommodating up to 6-7 patients as needed.
• Provide comprehensive nursing care focusing on prevalent conditions such as strokes, sepsis, acute mental status changes, respiratory failure, congestive heart failure, and post-operative trauma.
• Utilize specialty equipment, including IABP, CRRT, ventriculostomy, ICP monitoring, and targeted temperature management (TTM).

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required.
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York is mandatory at the time of submission.
• NURSYS report and verification of all active RN licenses are required.
• Must be willing to float among various units as designated by the hospital's staffing needs.

Additional Information

Shift: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.

This role is part of a critical care float pool, where floating is a required component of the job. Specialty areas cover a range of diagnoses and interventions, contributing to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Common Patient Diagnoses

• Neurological/Medical conditions - Strokes, Sepsis, Acute Mental Status Changes (AMS)
• Respiratory Failure and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Post-Stemi care in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) for cardiovascular surgical interventions and cardiogenic shock
• Trauma and major post-operative surgical cases, including Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) surgeries.
