The Scrub Tech Certified at Palo Pinto General Hospital plays a critical role in supporting surgical teams by preparing and maintaining the sterile field during operative procedures. This position ensures that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized, organized, and readily available to surgeons and nurses, thereby facilitating efficient and safe surgeries. The Scrub Tech works closely with OR nursing personnel to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond promptly to requests. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict infection control protocols, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Ultimately, the Scrub Tech Certified contributes directly to positive patient outcomes by maintaining a sterile and well-organized operating room environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent scrub tech certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a hospital operating room setting.
• Advanced certifications such as Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills developed through clinical experience.
• Additional training in specialized surgical procedures or equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and equipment according to the specific procedure requirements.
• Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, sponges, and other sterile supplies in a timely and efficient manner.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and ensure the sterile field is not compromised throughout the surgical procedure.
• Inspect and sterilize surgical instruments before and after procedures, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate needs and respond quickly to changes during surgery.
• Document surgical supplies used and assist in inventory management to ensure availability of necessary materials.
• Participate in cleaning and restocking the operating room after procedures to prepare for subsequent surgeries.

The required skills for this role include a thorough understanding of sterile techniques and surgical instrumentation, which are essential for maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment. The Scrub Tech uses these skills daily to prepare and organize surgical trays, ensuring that all instruments are sterile and accessible during procedures. Effective communication and teamwork skills are vital as the Scrub Tech coordinates closely with surgeons and nursing staff to anticipate and fulfill intraoperative needs promptly. Preferred skills such as familiarity with EMR systems enhance the ability to document surgical supplies accurately and support inventory management. Additionally, advanced certifications and specialized training enable the Scrub Tech to assist in more complex procedures, contributing to overall surgical team effectiveness and patient safety.

Days but will be expected to take rotating call. This is a 1.0 FTE position. Position is eligible, if applicable, for overtime pay, shift differential and on-call pay.
