Senior Bar Counsel – Attorney Assistance Consumer Program

Help protect the public and uphold the standards of Florida’s legal profession.

As a Senior Bar Counsel in the Attorney/Consumer Assistance Program (ACAP), you will review complaints involving Florida attorneys, conduct preliminary investigations, and help determine whether matters should move forward in the disciplinary process. You will also serve as a resource on the ACAP Hotline, helping identify how The Florida Bar can assist with inquiries and concerns from the public.

What You Will Do

• Review written complaints to determine whether a disciplinary file should be opened
• Conduct preliminary investigations through written communication with complainants and attorneys
• Evaluate complaints and supporting information to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to forward a matter to a Branch Office for further review, investigation, or possible referral to a grievance committee
• Screen telephone inquiries through the ACAP Hotline to determine what assistance, if any, can be provided by The Florida Bar
• Direct appropriate inquiries and minor complaints to other Bar programs, committees, or public agencies
• Manage a substantial caseload while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and appropriate follow-through
• Perform other duties as assigned

Who Should Apply

• Juris Doctor and a member in good standing of The Florida Bar
• Senior Bar Counsel: Three or more years of legal experience as an attorney
  • Bar Counsel: At least one year of legal experience as an attorney
• Knowledge of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar
• Knowledge of legal terminology and the judicial process
• Knowledge of The Florida Bar’s disciplinary procedures
• Strong legal, analytical, oral, and written communication skills
• Proficiency with MS Word, internet research, and case management
• Ability to think logically, solve problems, and interpret policies and procedures
• Ability to organize and prioritize work and effectively manage a substantial caseload
• Ability to tactfully manage difficult situations and communicate professionally
• Strong service-oriented approach
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a team environment
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment

The position requires extended computer and telephone work, including sitting for long periods of time, and the ability to lift 5 to 10 lbs. This is an in-office position located in Tallahassee, Florida, and is not a remote position.
