This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location. Role Overview This position provides comprehensive Substance Use Disorder (SUD) assessments for justice-involved individuals, utilizing diagnostic tools to determine accurate ASAM levels of care, and provides professional behavioral health services to a population of offenders with substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment needs. Responsibilities Provide substance use treatment services to the offender population, including assessments, clinical interventions, and crisis management Enter and update diagnostics based on assessment findings Collaborate with medical staff regarding Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) behavioral services Serve as consultant for unit staff regarding assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning Provide clinical direction to non-clinical staff in behavioral health care and treatment of offenders Assure continuity of care for offenders by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary information and documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies Provide crisis intervention in accordance with clinical standards regarding mental health professional privilege level Inform offenders regarding substance use treatment Communicate regarding complaints, problems, transfers, classifications, and offender behavior management issues related to substance use treatment Monitor inmate treatment and documentation to assure compliance with standards, assuring continuity of care, and complete assigned tasks in compliance with overtime exempt status Minimum Qualifications Possession of one or more current, valid licenses from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies: Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) One year of licensed or license candidacy experience with substance use and/or mental health Required Competencies Self-control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment standards and guidelines Knowledge of mental health standards and guidelines Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to read and comprehend English Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines Ability to provide direct patient care to inmates Must maintain required licensure Preferred Qualifications Current, valid Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) credential issued by the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners Current, valid Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) credential issued by the State of Colorado Experience providing mental health treatment and discharge planning with severely mentally ill and developmentally disabled population Experience providing substance use disorder treatment to justice involved populations Experience conducting suicide risk assessments Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team Conditions of Employment Must be 21 years of age Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record consistent with Colorado Division of Human Resources Universal Policy Driving Standards Possess a high school diploma or GED No felony convictions Legally eligible to work in the United States; CDOC does not sponsor non-residents of the United States Successfully complete all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training Complete the required physical fitness tasks and defensive tactics training Must pass drug screening and tuberculosis screening Willing to travel and work various shifts including nights, evenings, and graveyards Equal Opportunity Employer Statement The State of Colorado is an equal opportunity employer committed to building inclusive, innovative work environments with employees who reflect our communities.
