Lecturer – GEO 102: Oral Communication (Fall 2026) Job no: 558633 Work type: Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer Location: San Marcos Categories: Unit 3 – CFA – California Faculty Association, Temporary, Part Time, Faculty – Communications/Journalism Position Overview The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach GEO 102 – Oral Communication. The course is an introduction to the form and content of communication, covering the linguistic, psychological, and cultural bases of communication, various types of communication from basic speech acts to forms of persuasion, the social and political significance of communication, and the operation of communication within and across a wide range of social contexts. Students will actively participate in classroom exercises and practice public speaking. Course Details Semester: Fall 2026 Day/Time: Varies Modality: In‑person College: College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences Qualifications ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in‑person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard Per the California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in California is a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs Higher education teaching experience with a minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to the subject area Preference for applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service. Salary Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
