The dynamic Arts Department is seeking a highly organized and proactive Lab Manager with diverse skills to support daily lab activities and administrative functions. Under the supervision of the Department Chair of Arts, The Lab Manager will be responsible for a wide range of tasks. Some of these tasks include providing technical support for all art labs, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, metal arts studio/laboratory, as well as painting and drawing labs; hiring and supervising a group of Laboratory Assistants/College Aides; preparing and assisting in the justification of budget estimates; preparing and assisting in making recommendations for safety procedures and equipment, maintaining expenditure controls over approved budgets; ordering materials and supplies; and ensuring that labs are functioning at a high level. To enhance productivity and ensure smooth operations, the ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational abilities, solid communication skills, strong attention to detail, proficiency in various Art Department Lab technologies, and a willingness and ability to learn new processes/procedures and adapt to a changing environment. Job Duties Please note the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the 2439 Technical Instructional Assist, Laboratory/Storeroom Manager (Art Department) class code and not intended to be an inclusive list. Essential Functions

1. Arranges setup of site for the purpose of ensuring that items are provided in accordance with storeroom/warehouse requirements.
2. Communicates with a variety of staff and students (e.g. department chairs, administrators, faculty, off campus storeroom-related jobs for students, etc.) for the purpose of implementing necessary and accurate communication of Storeroom/warehouse processes.
3. Contacts contractors and vendors (e.g. fire extinguisher, window coverings, commercial movers, etc.) for the purpose of implementing required inventory processes.
4. Directs storeroom staff (e.g. trains State/Federal OSHA policys, Health/Safety, etc.) for the purpose of assisting them in performing their functions in a safe and efficient manner within the required work-shift.
5. Inspects all deliveries for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated purchasing regulations.
6. Inventories all storeroom supplies (e.g. shortages, prices, delivery specifications, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability and accuracy storeroom inventory.
7. Maintains all Storeroom procedures, regulations and operations for the purpose of complying with current Storeroom daily operation.
8. Operates various equipment (e.g. transport and storage of inventory, light truck operation for pick-up and delivery, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within Store services operations.
9. Oversees a variety of processes (e.g. reception of materials and supplies, checking specifications of shipments, reviewing purchase orders and requisitions, minor purchases from petty cash, contacting vendors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining optimal operation of Storeroom.
10. Participates in unit meetings for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.
11. Prepares a variety of documentation (e.g. reconciliation reports, purchase orders, etc.) for the purpose of providing historical documentation.
12. Provides technical and safety advice (e.g. advising instructors in development or revision of laboratory protocols, etc.) for the purpose of implementing optimal biological techniques and instrumentation.
13. Supervises TIAs and student lab aides (e.g. Ocean and Mission campuses, performing a variety of laboratory processes, etc.) for the purpose of performing all required laboratory processes and procedures required.
14. Supervises staff in their performance of daily assignments (e.g. cleaning of storage areas, maintenance of storeroom site, coordinating work for truck drivers, assigning duties/schedules, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a neat, orderly storeroom or warehouse, and efficient operations.

Other Functions 15. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Please note, additional qualifications (i.e., special conditions) may apply to a particular position and will be stated on the exam/job announcement. Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the appropriate discipline of physics, engineering, physical sciences, biological sciences, art, or studio arts. Experience: Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of experience managing or supervising a laboratory or storeroom in the appropriate department working in an instructional laboratory or storeroom as a manager, supervisor, or teacher. College Work Study and Student Lab Aide experience with the District will be considered/applied as qualifying experience per an agreement made between the District and SEIU . This agreement will allow District students to take advantage of employment opportunities. March 2024. Desirable Qualifications Desirable QualificationsThe stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring. Experience loading and firing and maintaining ceramic kilns. Understanding of ceramic glazing and glaze combinations. Experience working in a woodshop and maintaining various hand tools and equipment such as bandsaws, sanders, compound miter saw, and panel saw. Experience working in welding shop and maintaining equipment such as MIG and OXY / ACE rigs, sandblasters, grinders, and a forge. Experience maintaining tools and equipment. Experience working in a jewelry & metal arts lab including machine, hand tools and the safe and proper use of the centrifugal casting machine. Experience dealing with a wide variety of materials, adhering to safety and hazardous materials protocols. Experience working students and/or adult learners in a dynamic lab environment. Willingness to learn new processes and tools/equipment and to troubleshoot and/or conduct research when necessary.

1. Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school- term-only ( STO ) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreements between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school- term-only ( STO ) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.
2. New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013, will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund ( RHCTF ).
