Nurse Coordinator

The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine isseeking a Nurse Coordinator to work in the Department ofNeurology, Clinical Center for Adults with Neuro-DevelopmentalDisorders (CCAND) . The Department of Neurology providesevaluation, treatment, and care for patients suffering from a widerange of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy,multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateralsclerosis (ALS), and migraine. We provide care through ourinpatient and consultative services, our designated ComprehensiveStroke Center, our Level 4 Epilepsy Center, our 22-bedNeuro-Critical Care Unit, and our busy outpatient practice. TheDepartment also provides state-of-the-art rehabilitation services.A number of departmental faculty received grant funding from theNational Institutes of Health and the Veteran's Administration tostudy the role of genetics in stroke, epilepsy, and Parkinson'sdisease, new brain imaging modalities in multiple sclerosis,biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, and neurodevelopmental disorderssuch as autism and intellectual disability. Many faculty are leadinvestigators in clinical trials to identify new therapeuticapproaches for a broad range of neurological disorders . The Nurse Coordinator will be involved in the daily coordination ofthe CCAND assisting the MD and NPs with various patient-carerelated administrative tasks. The Nurse Coordinator willindependently handle pre authorizations for the CCAND patients,manage lab requests and respond to patient calls, respond to portalmessages and assist with RX refill. Strong oral and writtencommunication skills are essential for success in this role, as thecandidate will serve as the primary point of contact for patients.Additionally, proficiency in computer skills is highly desired tofacilitate the upkeep of a comprehensive database for patient dataoutcomes. All employees are expected to workprimarily physically within the State of Maryland Essential Functions: Responsible ongoing coordination of patient care-relatedadministrative responsibilities for CCAND clinic patients,including but not limited to: Responding to patient phone calls in a timely manner Managing and responding to patient portal messages Reviewing, processing, prescription refill requests topharmacies Managing pre-authorization requests, including follow-up andensuring completion Managing lab requests and ensuring all applicable results areuploaded into Epic Assisting with coordination of patient care needs asappropriate Assisting with disability, drivers, and other insurance relatedforms Working to maintain the CCAND Clinical Database Qualifications : Minimum Qualifications: Education : Bachelors in Nursing Experience : Five (5) years experience as a registerednurse, at least one (1) year in research specialization. Supervisory : Experience in patient or project managementpreferred Licensure/Certification : Maryland licensed registerednurse. Other : May require training related to occupational safetyand health, and environmental compliance Except for qualifications established by law, additional relatedexperience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance ofthe work of the job class may be substituted for the education orexperience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year ofrelated experience. In instances where specific education and/orexperience is required only directly related education and/orexperience may be substituted.
