Role Description The Assistant Purchasing Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in New Orleans, LA, supporting the purchasing department in sourcing, ordering, and replenishing janitorial, paper, and food service products. This role assists with maintaining optimal inventory levels, tracking purchase orders, monitoring delivery schedules, and resolving discrepancies with suppliers. The Assistant Purchasing Manager helps evaluate vendor performance, obtain pricing and quotes, and support contract negotiations under the direction of the Purchasing Manager. Daily responsibilities include reviewing sales and inventory reports, updating purchasing records in the ERP system, coordinating with warehouse and logistics teams, and responding to internal requests for product information or substitutions. The role also contributes to process improvements, maintains accurate documentation, and supports special projects to ensure reliable product availability and cost-effective procurement. Qualifications Strong purchasing and supply chain skills, including experience with purchase orders, vendor coordination, and inventory replenishment. Proficiency with data entry, spreadsheets, and ERP or inventory management systems to track orders, pricing, and stock levels. Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret reports, identify variances, and recommend cost-effective solutions. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with vendors, warehouse staff, sales teams, and leadership. High attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in purchasing, distribution, or related operations; background in janitorial, paper, or food service products is a plus. Basic understanding of contract terms, pricing structures, and vendor compliance requirements.
