This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Sumter Correctional Institution in the Education Department. The Education Department provides comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

• Leads the dynamic Wellness Education program, planning, administering, and teaching engaging classroom activities for inmates.
• Supervises and coordinates exciting recreational activities, ensuring security and direct supervision for all participants.
• Collaborates with medical and security staff to create impactful wellness programs that support the social recovery of inmates.
• Monitors and assesses inmate interests, transforming assessments into actionable goals and performance tasks to enhance wellness education.
• Organizes and oversees special events and competitive wellness activities, including coordinating with outside groups for recreational and cultural experiences.

REQUIREMENTS:

• A high school diploma or its equivalent
• One year of professional experience in conducting recreational activities or health/wellness.
  • Correctional experience can substitute for one year of the required work experience.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
