Simply Miraculous Fine Gardening is a family and women-owned and run business based in Hingham, MA, specializing in high-end residential fine gardening. We take enormous pride in the quality and care of our work and in building long-term relationships with our clients. We are looking for a seasoned, knowledgeable gardener with leadership experience who is ready to grow into a lead gardener role within our expanding team.

This is a full-time position with a Monday through Thursday schedule, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, with Fridays available as an optional rain day. Our season runs April – November/December. Compensation is $22–$26/hr, based on your experience and skillset.

Gardening Responsibilities

• Careful deadheading, thorough weeding, and maintenance of ornamental garden beds

• Skilled hand pruning of shrubs and trees of all varieties, with proper technique, timing, and an understanding of plant growth habits

• Applying fertilizers and soil amendments

• Assisting with new plantings, transplanting, and dividing perennials

• Planting and maintaining seasonal container arrangements

• Hand watering plants, containers, and beds during dry and hot periods

• Observing plants closely for signs of stress, disease, or pest pressure and communicating findings to the team

• Understanding and honoring each client’s individual needs and desires for their property

• Lifting up to 25 lbs and working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Lead Responsibilities

• Organizing and delegating daily tasks based on each team member’s skills and experience to ensure efficient, quality work across each property

• Keeping the team on task and on schedule throughout the day, maintaining the Simply Miraculous standard at every property

• Supporting team members by assisting with and teaching tasks when needed, with the eventual responsibility of onboarding and training newer gardeners

• Driving the company truck and trailer to and from job sites safely and responsibly

• Overseeing the proper care and use of tools and equipment on-site

• Maintaining clear, professional communication with ownership and the team throughout the day

• Completing accurate job documentation and developing proficiency with company systems and CRM tools

The Ideal Candidate

• Passionate about plants, plant health, and fine gardening as a craft, with a natural eye for quality and detail

• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in fine gardening, horticulture

• Solid plant knowledge and identification skills — ornamental perennials, shrubs, and trees common to New England

• Confident and practiced hand pruning skills with a thorough understanding of technique and timing

• Proven experience leading or supervising a small team, with the ability to assess skills, delegate thoughtfully, and keep a crew focused and productive

• A compassionate, patient, and encouraging presence — someone who leads by example and genuinely invests in the people around them

• A natural ability to teach — able to communicate tasks clearly, meet team members where they are, and foster growth

• Highly organized with strong situational awareness on-site — able to read a property, prioritize tasks, and adjust as needed

• Clear and confident communicator with both ownership and team members

• Open to learning the Simply Miraculous approach — our way of caring for properties is something we take great pride in

• Comfortable with basic documentation; willing to grow into company systems and CRM tools

• Ability to recognize when a plant is in stress; specific disease or pest identification is a plus

• Punctual, reliable, detail-oriented, and professional

• Valid driver’s license required; truck and trailer experience preferred — training provided
