Position Cable Technician – Lead Technician About The Role This role primarily involves the installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within a Data Center environment. The incumbent leads crews, provides structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders, ensures high-quality workmanship, maintains Data Center cleanliness, and adheres to all production, safety and quality standards, codes and industry best practices. The role also requires collaboration with stakeholders to resolve project obstacles and the ability to read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation. A broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies is essential. Responsibilities Installation/decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment. Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement. Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders. Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness. Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices. Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles. Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation/redline work. Have a broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies. Qualifications Copper/Fiber (term, test, splice, troubleshoot) Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools. Capable of leading a crew of 1-5 technicians. Understand customer service, perform job walks and communicate with customers for job requirements. Accept responsibility for the outcome of work performed by oneself and by employees who directly report. Clear understanding of job safety requirements. Be able to read and understand job floor plan. Be familiar with wiring schemes and wiring testing. Be able to pull all types of low voltage cables. Understand and perform field terminations and labeling. Maintain orderly paperwork and run midsize to large projects and service jobs. Possess skill to layout MDF and IDF closets, dress all types of cable and perform all types of terminations; basic understanding of fiber equipment, cable types and fiber terminations. Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting. Work in Data Centers. Be able to work on analog, DSL, and extend T1 lines. Be able to patch network equipment. Track and submit timesheets for crew reporting. Perform job walks. Maintain paperwork and run service jobs. Track lessons learned as they occur. Coordinate with QA/QC on quality status walks. Understand network handover and project close-out. Identify the tech’s strengths and weaknesses. Effectively communicate with foreman, leads and technicians. Understand metrics/SLA’s and track them. Track and submit timesheets for crew. Possess responsibility for outcome of work. Salary & Benefits The minimum salary for the Union Data Center Lead Technician position is $38.00 per hour and the maximum salary is $43.86 per hour.
