Requisition No: 860293 Agency: Department of Health Working Title: GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS CONSULTANT II - 64081371 Pay Plan: Career Service Position Number: 64081371 Salary: $45,060.11 - $50,500.06 Posting Closing Date: 05/23/2026 Total Compensation Estimator Tool Open Competitive Your Specific Responsibilities This is a highly responsible professional position as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator in the Violence and Injury Prevention Section, Bureau of Family Health Services, Division of Community Health Promotion. This position will develop and implement suicide prevention strategies including education and awareness training, program and policy development, program evaluation, collaboration with internal and external partners, peer education and social marketing. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as the program manager for implementation of the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention grant. Activities include training and technical assistance for strategies to prevent or reduce suicide and other forms of violence; implementation of evidence‑based strategies to reduce or prevent fatalities and injuries attributed to suicide in our state; working with county health departments to build infrastructure and capacity to conduct screenings, train staff; and establish protocols, and build linkages to partners in the community with resources. Participate in monthly Centers for Disease Control Technical calls and other webinars and prepare and submit annual progress reports as required. Coordinate with Department of Children and Families Statewide Office of Suicide Prevention to align activities and implement the state suicide prevention plan. Liaison with the Office of Public Health Research regarding data for high‑risk populations and findings from the Florida Violent Death Reporting System Data, as well as other data sources identified by the Florida Department of Health. Participate on the State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) for priority areas including those relating to Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse and Injury Safety and Violence. Facilitate and lead meetings as required, both via telecommunications and onsite, and disseminate minutes. Conduct activities and report quarterly or as required. Serve as a liaison to county health department consortia. Attend meetings and serve as liaison for other intentional and unintentional injury‑related requests from regional departments of health. Provide resources, technical assistance, and updates as requested. Serve as contract manager as required by section 287.057 (13), Florida Statutes (F.S.). Assist in the development and execution of competitive bid or sole source instruments and execution management of contracts; identification of administrative policies and procedures to be implemented in the provision of program services; resolution of problems presented by the providers and program evaluation and analysis as necessary. Process invoices, and monitor contract (fiscally, administratively, and programmatically), to ensure fidelity and compliance with all state and federal regulations. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of suicide in particular, and violence and injury prevention in general; data collection and analysis; contract management; purchasing rules and procedures; ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations; ability to form consensus and solve problems; work effectively within a time sensitive environment; document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational practices; create and organize information into logical formats for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials; create and conduct training programs that result in positive feedback from attendees; ability to create effective messaging; conduct fact‑finding research; utilize problem‑solving techniques; work independently; ability to read, interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and departmental rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; write and communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others (strong communications skills – both written and orally). Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Qualifications Preferred Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field and two years of work experience in a capacity related to duties to be performed or Master’s degree in health education, public health, or other specific health‑related area, and one year of work experience in a capacity related to duties to be performed. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man‑made or natural.
